Fitball (Swiss Ball) Classes

A Fitball, also known as a Swiss ball or stability ball, is one of the most versatile pieces of exercise equipment available. Balls can be used by all ages and all fitness abilities in everything from a rehabilitation program to a sports performance program. The main benefits gained from exercises performed on a Fitball are the development of balance and core strength, providing greater postural control in everyday life

A Fitball is an inflatable ball that is made from a thick rubberized compound. Fitballs are typically inflated to 80 to 90 percent of capacity. They are available in different sizes and are used while exercising. Some of the exercises that utilize the Fitball are designed for core strengthening. This is the middle section of the body, including the abdominal muscles.

Benefits

Fitball exercises can be used to strengthen the lower back. Exercises can help return patients to normal activities after back surgery

A primary benefit of exercising with an exercise ball as opposed to exercising directly on a hard flat surface is that the body responds to the instability of the ball to remain balanced, engaging many more muscles. Those muscles become stronger over time to keep balance. Most frequently, the core body muscles, the abdominal muscles and back muscles are the focus of Fitball programs.
